Annual Meeting
The November WI meeting is always Asby’s ‘must-have’ annual meeting. It’s a mandatory opportunity to look back over the past year, find out how the finances stand and to elect/re-elect the branch committee, plus a few other ‘bits and pieces’. This year was no exception.
The Treasurer reported a sound financial position and the Secretary gave an account of all that had been organised during the year. President, Annie Johnson, thanked the members of the committee for all their support and mentioned in particular Treasurer Anne Hulse and Secretary Jackie Smart. Because of other commitments that she now had for Asby School, Jackie was resigning both as Secretary and from the committee.
Annie especially thanked Jackie for all her hard work – she had been parachuted into the post unexpectedly a couple of years ago to fill a sudden vacancy and had had a steep learning curve. Louise Reeve is replacing Jackie; Annie was re-appointed President; and Anne as Treasurer. Other members of the committee were re-elected – Pat Bevan (Vice-President), Helen Cooper, Pam Cowey, Maggie Johnson, and Carol Smith.
The 2019 winner of the Competition Cup was Pat Bevan; joint second Rachel Forrest and Pam Cowey.
After the Annual Meeting refreshments were served by Rachel Forrest and Pat Bevan; and Louise Reeve followed these with a lively quiz. The winning team consisted of Annie Johnson, Maggie Smith and Pat Bevan.
The main competition for the evening was a handmade Christmas card. Annie Johnson was the winner, with Helen Cooper second and Louise Reeve third. Much earlier in the year one evening had been spent rainbow-dyeing hanks of wool. Members had been challenged to make an article using their hank and to bring it to the November meeting for a separate competition: Pam Cowey’s entry was the winner.
