What is Mothers' Union?
The Mothers’ Union is an international membership charity that aims to demonstrate the Christian faith in action through the transformation of communities worldwide.
Mothers’ Union works with people of all faiths (and none) in 83 countries across the globe. Our vision is of a world where God’s love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships, actively pursued through prayer, campaigning and enabling.
Our objectives are always to:
- Promote and support married life
- Encourage parents in their role to develop the faith of their children
- Maintain a worldwide Christian fellowship united in prayer, worship and service
- Promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children
- Help those whose family life has met with adversity.
If this is something that appeals to you, and would like to learn more, do visit the Mothers’ Union website.

Our Branch
We are a small but active branch and regularly welcome visitors and non-members of all denominations from across the local area and beyond. You don’t have to be a mother to be a member, you can be single, married, a parent, a grandparent or a young adult.
Our Meetings
We meet regularly, mostly on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm; though we like to have a summer break in July and August.
Some meetings are hosted by individual members in their own homes & others in St Peter’s Church. These typically start with some short prayers followed by a speaker or activity; then an opportunity to catch up with news and views over a cup of tea. Why not come along to one of our events and get a “taster” of what we do?
Other Events
Other events include a meal out, an annual trip in June and a special Mothers’ Union service at St Peter’s Church in September. In between meetings we support our local churches in a number of ways including fundraising and by offering Christian friendship. The group has strong links with our friends from the Low Hesket branch, just north of Penrith, visiting and supporting shared events with them.
