One Man’s Ode to our Local Landscape

In April 2018 the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership held a day long event in Orton to present its efforts to “reveal the hidden heritage of the Westmorland Dales“.

By way of introduction to the event, Sir Martin Holdgate (Emeritus President of the Friends of the Lake District) gave an eloquent description of our local landscape and its long history.  That description has now been captured by FLD in this fascinating 15 minute video.   In his youth, Martin spent many a summer holiday in Asby and he references his experiences in our village several times.

During the summer of 2018, Sir Martin was again welcomed back to Great Asby to lead a guided walk around the village during which members of the Asby History Group  very much enjoyed his recollections.
