Vegan Cookery

Asby WI was visited in September by Laura Harker, a cookery demonstrator who has been to Asby a number of times before. This time her remit was Vegan Cookery. She arrived loaded down with vegan-friendly ingredients readily available from the larger supermarkets. But it was a meeting members would always remember because it literally started with a flash and a bang when the village hall electric cooker blew a fuse!
This was somewhat of a problem as a number of items needed to be baked. However, undaunted, Laura just changed the order of her presentation and when those to be baked were ready they were whisked off to the President’s home where husband Geoff was left in charge.
Members were able to taste the delicious dishes Laura produced and the leftovers were raffled. If asked, those present would probably list the squash and chickpea curry, ‘sausage’ rolls, a sticky toffee pudding and chocolate truffles as the most popular items created that evening.
