Annual Meeting 2017
The November Asby WI meeting was attended by 16 members and Margaret Hodgins, from Cumbria-Westmorland Federation. Normal business began the evening during which members reported back on Federation events they had attended.
Five members had joined the Crossfell Group in Ormside for an entertaining musical evening with ‘Pandora’s Handbag’. Annie Johnson had also represented Asby at the Federation’s Annual Council meeting and in her written report declared the day’s speakers as both being very good.
The formal Annual Meeting followed at which the Secretary’s Report recorded a busy year with members enjoying a range of local monthly meetings and other events across the Federation. The Treasurer recorded a successful year with a surplus of £176. In the President’s absence, Susan Renshaw thanked the committee members for their support during the year. In particular she thanked June Sowerby (Minutes Secretary) who had recently moved to Bolton, and presented retiring committee member Rachel Forrest with a gift in recognition of her long service.
Two new committee members, Helen Cooper and Louise Reeve, joined the remaining team to serve for the coming year. Jackie Smart (Secretary) and Anne Hulse (Treasurer) were re-appointed and, with Margaret Hodgins acting as scrutineer, Annie Johnson was re-elected President.
Overall competition winners for the year were – first Rachel Forrest; runner-up Pat Bevan. The evening’s competition ‘It belonged to my grandma’ was won by Susan Renshaw, second Anne Hulse; and the raffle was won by Helen Cooper.
Refreshments followed, served by Pam Cowey and Susan Walker, after which members enjoyed social time over Bingo with various winners!
