Visit to Gresgarth Hall – June 2018
A group of Asby AGC members & non members enjoyed a relaxing and interesting visit to Gresgarth Hall in north Lancashire to see the stunning private gardens of Arabella Lennox-Boyd, the internationally renowned landscape designer. The gardens are only opened once a month from February to November and it was a particular treat to see them at one of the best times of the year, when the herbaceous borders and walled kitchen gardens are thriving, although there is something of interest to see every season.
Especially spectacular on this June visit were the many flowering dogwoods set amongst all the other interesting trees and shrubs. Also eye-catching are a number of pebble mosaics set in the paving. Some Asbian thought the tiny frogs which abounded around the lake were particularly enchanting and the setting of the house and gardens against the lake was beautiful.
There is a great deal to enjoy whatever the month. I met a lady behind me in the queue for coffee and cake who has been visiting Gresgarth every month for fifteen years!
For those members who were not able to get to Gresgarth Hall this month there are other opportunities to visit throughout the year. See the website arabellalennoxboyd.com for details.
