Asby Churches Together
Great Asby is home to two churches covering the denominations of Baptist, Church of England, and Methodist. They work closely together and regularly hold united services, usually on the second Sunday of the month, as well as forming the Asby Fellowship.
About Us
St Peter’s dates back at least to Norman times, with some evidence of a Saxon precursor. The Church was almost completely rebuilt in 1864/65, at the personal expense of the patron, and consecrated in 1866. Both the Church and the Lych Gate are listed. It is within the Diocese of Carlisle. Learn more.

Internal Alterations 2024
We plan to make some internal alterations to the layout of pews in order to allow for a range of community focussed events and some more flexible patterns of worship. These changes relate to the south aisle of the church, and are laid out in these two documents:
The building was dedicated as a Baptist chapel in 1862.
The new informal name underlines that we welcome people from any church background, or none.
It is to be found at the south western end of Great Asby village.
Asby Churches Together
and the Asby Fellowship
The churches in Asby have been working together for many years, with regular monthly united services. More than twenty years ago ACT set up the Asby Fellowship, so that members of all the churches could meet together on a regular basis to study the Bible and to learn about & discuss a wide range of Christian issues.
Our Meetings
Meetings are held on a fortnightly basis in term time, in members’ homes, currently on a Wednesday evening. Meetings are led by guest speakers (usually, but not always, local priests & pastors), and by members. The usual – but not invariable – pattern of a meeting is a period of worship (usually in the singing of hymns together), followed by a period of Bible (or issue) study and discussion: meetings end with refreshments.
Fellowship meetings are very much not members only occasions; and attendance is by no means limited to regular church worshippers: occasional, or ‘one off’, attendance is welcome.
Details of forthcoming meetings can also be found on the Churches page of this web-site.

ATG Activities
We will be working with local landowners to identify small areas of land that can be used to plant trees or hedges. Occasional requests will go out to members, seeking volunteers to survey areas of land to assess the age and health of trees and to identify possible planting areas, as well as to take part in planting trees and hedges. These activities will normally be scheduled to last for no more than three hours.
The Tree Group has insurance to cover members carrying out these activities.

COVID Policy (Feb.2022)
Unfortunately Covid-19 has not gone away, and we still want everyone to feel safe whilst being able to enjoy the film.
We use ‘cabaret-style’ seating around suitably spaced tables.
We recommend that you continue to wear a face covering when moving around the village hall, though this may be removed whilst you are seated.
It would also be appreciated if you could complete an antigen (lateral flow) test before attending. (We are more than happy to refund your ticket should your test unfortunately prove positive.)
