Event Details

If you wish to attend this event please let Keith know by 3 July at the latest.

Led by:  Richard Brockington.

Some of you may remember Richard’s presentation to the History Group, based on his recent publication in the Victoria County History Series, Kirkoswald and Renwick, or perhaps you read the report of its publication in the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald on 1 June?

The plan is that we meet at the bus-shelter in Great Asby at 1pm on July 10th, to sort out cars and drivers, before proceeding to Kirkoswald. Richard has made arrangements with Tim Fetherstonhaugh to enable us to park at the College.

We begin the afternoon with Tim leading us on a tour of the College, which is the family home.  (There will be a charge of £5 per person for this tour.). For a little more information on the College, see this website,  or look at Hyde, M & Pevsner, N, The Buildings of England: Cumbria, London, 2010, p 476.

Following the tour of the College, Richard will guide us around the church and the castle, before we return to the cars at around 4pm.

For the full picture about Kirkoswald, you could, of course, always go to Brockington, R with Rose, S, Victoria County History of Cumbria: Kirkoswald and Renwick, Institute of Historical Research, London, 2019. (Best price is probably on the University of Lancaster website)

Tim and Richard will need to know numbers in advance, so it would be very helpful if you could let the organiser know before June 29th.

All welcome, both AHG members and non-members.

ATG Activities

We will be working with local landowners to identify small areas of land that can be used to plant trees or hedges. Occasional requests will go out to members, seeking volunteers to survey areas of land to assess the age and health of trees and to identify possible planting areas, as well as to take part in planting trees and hedges. These activities will normally be scheduled to last for no more than three hours.

The Tree Group has insurance to cover members carrying out these activities.

COVID Policy (Feb.2022)

Unfortunately Covid-19 has not gone away, and we still want everyone to feel safe whilst being able to enjoy the film.

  • We use ‘cabaret-style’ seating around suitably spaced tables.
  • We recommend that you continue to wear a face covering when moving around the village hall, though this may be removed whilst you are seated.
  • It would also be appreciated if you could complete an antigen (lateral flow) test before attending.  (We are more than happy to refund your ticket should your test unfortunately prove positive.)
