Our last visit of the summer will take us to St. Michael’s Church in Barton, 2 miles NE of Pooley Bridge.
This church a designated Grade I listed building. It stands in a circular churchyard, and possesses the only central Norman tower on a medieval church in Cumbria. The nave and tower date from the 12th century, the south aisle and arcade from the middle of the 13th century, and the north aisle and arcade, and the south chapel from about 1300.
Meet at the Great Asby Bus Shelter at 1.30 pm to arrange car-sharing.
Church visit 2.30-4pm, then to Abbott Lodge Jersey Ice Cream to end the day.
