The first of our Summer Outings
The plan is to start in Little Asby, looking at a mysterious earthwork and the possible site of the Asby Parish ‘Poor House’, before walking to Waterhouses, to examine the site of the now ‘lost’ Little Asby Manorial Mill. From there, we’ll walk up the Potts Valley to look at the historic landscape, returning to Little Asby along part of the old track which once ran from the settlement of Little Asby to the corn-mill, and speculate about the cultivation and processing of hemp in nearby fields.
Likely, not everybody will be able to manage this walk – there are a couple of difficult stiles and quite a steep walk up permanent pasture at the end of it. For those who can’t make it, a recording of this walk should shortly be available on the Parish website.
If you would like to come along, can you please email Keith ().
