Event Details
Sunday 23 September – Open Garden & Cream Tea
AGC Open Garden with Cream Tea on 23rd September from 2pm onwards, at the home of Garden Club member Val Reynolds,
The Coach House, Church Brough.
St Michael’s Church in Church Brough was founded in the 1100s. The Coach House was built at the same time as the ‘new’ Rectory in the 1700s. Val’s Garden was fashioned from part of the Rectory land. This stunning garden has a variety of different areas, the courtyard, the kitchen garden, the gravel garden, patio, terrace & pond plus two hot composting bins.
The garden is run on a no dig basis.
This event, including the cream tea (G/F scones available), is FREE for both AGC members and non-members!
(Though donations gratefully received.)
Parking is available at the Church car park.
Further Info
- The courtyard has been planted with perennials in chimney pots and hanging baskets.
- The kitchen garden – Val has concentrated on finding vegetables and fruit that grow well locally.
- Two hot composting bins gobble up the green waste at a surprising rate, they currently run at 90° and 100°.
- The gravel garden has been planted up with perennials placed in holes dug out with a pickaxe. This leads to the patio containing several large pots and a bird bath.
- The terrace overlooks the rest of the garden with a summerhouse, lawn, herbaceous borders, a pond and pumped stream.
- The pond surround is in the process of being planted and a grassed bank is being considered as being suitable for terracing.
- As always, the garden is in a state of flux, and this is the season of moving plants to a ‘better place’.
- Please be aware that some of the paths are very narrow.
