Discovering Asby’s Historical Landscape: an aerial view
This month’s speaker will be Keith Cooper.
Using information from documents and maps in the Archives at Kendal and Carlisle, published material, walking the ground and, importantly, listening to those who still (or until recently used to) work the land, Keith has attempted to uncover some perhaps forgotten or overlooked elements of the Parish landscape. These date from pre-history, although the greatest emphasis will be given to the medieval period, and then on into the early modern and the nineteenth century.
An attempt has been made to put this information into ‘Google Earth’ and you are invited to join Keith to ‘fly over’ part of the Parish landscape on the evening of February 7th to see what lies below.
Non-members most welcome, small entrance fee of £3 which includes refreshments.
Why not join? Annual membership just £10 with free entry to all meetings.
