Annual Meeting 2016
The November Asby WI meeting was attended by 15 members. Normal business began the evening during which members reported back on Federation events they had attended.
Two members had joined a Group Meeting at Warcop for a talk about diamonds; while five attended the Crossfell Group in Colby for a well-illustrated account of commercial shrimping in Morecambe Bay. Members also represented Asby at the Federation’s Annual Council meeting in Kendal where the afternoon’s speaker was very entertaining.
Two teams from Asby took part in the local section of the Federation Pub Quiz. Asby Heralds came joint second and Asby Angels were just 3 points behind them.
Then followed the formal Annual Meeting:…
The Secretary’s Report recorded a busy year with members enjoying a range of local monthly meetings and other events across the Federation. The Treasurer reported a successful year even though a fraction more was spent than received. The President presented long membership certificates to Valerie Cooper (40 years); Dorothy Hayton and Rachel Forrest (both 50 years) and thanked the Committee for their support.
Gwen Hadrill (Secretary), June Sowerby (Minutes Secretary) and Anne Hulse (Treasurer) were re-appointed. Following Susan Renshaw’s decision to step down after five years Annie Johnson was appointed President. Carol Smith thanked Susan for all she had done and presented her with an indoor plant from the WI.
Overall competition winners for the year were – joint-first Susan Walker and Rachel Forrest; runner-up Dorothy Hayton. The evening’s competition for a home-made Christmas cracker was won by Dorothy Hayton, second Louise Reeve; and the raffle was won by Christine Forrest.
The evening closed with refreshments served by Pam Cowey and Susan Walker during which time members tried their hand at identifying members from photographs taken when they were under the age of 5.
